ICOM-SA cooperates closely with SAMA. The President of SAMA is an Ex-officio member of the ICOM-SA Executive Board while the Chairman of ICOM-SA serves on the SAMA Council. SAMA and ICOM-SA share resources and cooperate in the organisation of conferences and symposiums.
Both ICOM-SA and AFRICOM, an affiliate of ICOM, have a common purpose of working with museums in Africa.
ICOMOS SA, which is the SA branch of ICOMOS, cooperates with ICOM-SA on conferences and symposiums, and in disseminating information about culture and heritage matters. It has a regular newsletter (sent to ICOM-SA’s list) which draws on lists like ICOMOS, Australia ICOMOS, UNESCO, AFRICOM, ICCROM and OCPA.
The NHC and ICOM-SA have a long relationship. The CEO of the NHC, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa chaired the meeting at which ICOM-SA was re-established, on 6 October 2006. The NHC has been ICOM-SA’s principal funder for the period 2006 – 2010 and thereby assisted South Africa in taking its rightful position in the international museum sector.
ICOM-SA is affiliated through ICOM and UNESCO to World Heritage Sites in South Africa.
