SAMA (South African Museums Association)
ICOM-SA cooperates closely with SAMA. The President of SAMA is an Ex-officio member of the ICOM-SA Executive Board while the Chairman of ICOM-SA serves on the SAMA Council. SAMA and ICOM-SA share resources and cooperate in the organisation of conferences and symposiums.
Both ICOM-SA and AFRICOM, an affiliate of ICOM, have a common purpose of working with museums in Africa.
ICOMOS SA (SA branch of the International Council on Monuments and Sites)
ICOMOS SA, which is the SA branch of ICOMOS, cooperates with ICOM-SA on conferences and symposiums, and in disseminating information about culture and heritage matters. It has a regular newsletter (sent to ICOM-SA’s list) which draws on lists like ICOMOS, Australia ICOMOS, UNESCO, AFRICOM, ICCROM and OCPA.
NHC (National Heritage Council)
The NHC and ICOM-SA have a long relationship. The CEO of the NHC, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa chaired the meeting at which ICOM-SA was re-established, on 6 October 2006. The NHC has been ICOM-SA’s principal funder for the period 2006 – 2010 and thereby assisted South Africa in taking its rightful position in the international museum sector.
ICOM-SA is affiliated through ICOM and UNESCO to World Heritage Sites in South Africa.
